The Holy Ghost

Hello Everyone!
)The reason I picked this picture is because the sun is like the Holy Ghost, strong and burning!)

This blog is called The Savior’s Instruction about the Holy Ghost and covers the scriptures of,

John 14:15-17, 26-27
John 15:26-27
John 16:7-8, 13-14

What the savior taught us in these scriptures can be put into two lists. The first is what the Holy Ghost does and second what disciples must do to receive the Holy Ghost. This blog goes well with the one before this called “A new Commandment.”

List one: What the Holy Ghost does

He is a comforter
He will abide with us forever
The spirit of truth
He dwells with us
He will teach us all things
He will bring all things to our remembrance
We will have peace through the Holy Ghost
He testifies of Christ
He will reprove the world for three reasons: sin, righteousness, and judgment
Guide us in all truths
Purifies and sanctifies us from sin

In the Institute Manual this paragraph explains in wonderful words what the Holy Ghost does.

The gift of the Holy Ghost adapts itself to all these organs or attributes. It quickens all the intellectual faculties, increases, enlarges, expands and purifies all the natural passions and affections; and adapts them, by the gift of wisdom, to their lawful use. It inspires, develops, cultivates and matures all the fine-toned sympathies, joys, tastes, kindred feelings and affections of our nature. It inspires virtue, kindness, goodness, tenderness, gentleness and charity. It develops beauty of person, form and features. It tends to health, vigor, animation and social feeling. It invigorates all the faculties of the physical and intellectual man. It strengthens, and gives tone to the nerves. In short, it is, as it were, marrow to the bone, joy to the heart, light to the eyes, music to the ears, and life to the whole being.

List two: What disciples must do to receive the Holy Ghost

Strive to be worthy
Through faithfulness obey the commandments
Make covenants and keep them
Strive to gain a testimony and increase it

After the Savior died and was resurrected the Apostles had the Holy Ghost with them. In the Bible dictionary it says there is the power and the gift of the Holy Ghost. The power of the Holy Ghost is given to all those even before baptism so that they can gain a testimony but the gift of the Holy Ghost is something special and something more powerful because it is only given to those who gain a testimony and follow Christ’s example and be baptized. Only once you are baptized can you have the Holy Ghost dwell with you continually, based on your worthiness. The Apostles gained that gift from Christ before He died and was resurrected. The Holy Ghost helped protect them and helped them to teach and share the gospel so that they could fulfill their missions.

Each and every day we receive promptings from the Holy Ghost for things we ask for but also for things we need to know and hear. One of the things that the Holy Ghost does is to comfort us and help guide us so that we are protected. That is something that I am truly grateful for in my life. I don’t have any straightforward examples or stories other than when I am needing to be comforted because of the trials in my life, I always have the Holy Ghost there to give me peace and knowledge that I will be alright!

I am truly grateful for the trials I went through early in my life. I am grateful for having the opportunity to move into a home that had the gospel and could help me to gain knowledge of why I went through what I did. I know that everything in our lives happen for a reason and for a purpose. Without Christ dieing for each one of us and being resurrected and without Joseph Smith seeking through prayer knowledge of the truthfulness of God, I would not have all these blessings in my life and I have come to know that all of this is true because the Holy Ghost has helped me know these things!
